Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has offered his thoughts on Relebohile Mofokeng's potential overseas move, suggesting the Orlando Pirates star is ready for the leap but also adding a word of caution.
Mofokeng, who burst onto the scene with his senior club debut in 2022, has been linked with a switch to Europe ever since. His dazzling skills and goal-scoring ability quickly made him a standout player in the Betway Premiership.
The Bafana Bafana international has even won several trophies with Bucs, including the Nedbank Cup and MTN8.
And since his breakthrough, Mofokeng has featured in 89 appearances across all competitions for Pirates, bagging 18 goals and providing 22 assists.
These impressive performances in the Buccaneers' colours have drawn interest from numerous European clubs, with Mofokeng even undergoing trials at English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers FC last year. At some stage, he was also linked with big teams such as Scottish giants Rangers and former UEFA Champions League winners Barcelona.
Broos believes that Mofokeng is ready to move abroad, but he stressed the importance of the player signing with a club where he'll be guaranteed regular game time.
“The only advice I can give to Mofokeng is that he has to make the right choice. That’s the only advice," said Broos. “Going to Europe is good, but try to make the right choice because if you go to a club where you don’t have a chance to play, I think it's better to stay one more year with Pirates.
“So that’s up to the player, his family, and his agent. I hope that his agent is looking at the future of the player and not his wallet.”
