Bryan Mbeumo: Man United forward reveals players who influenced his career

Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo has discussed players who influenced his style of play as he rose through the professional ranks.

The Manchester United winger has seen a revival since the takeover of interim manager Michael Carrick.

Having joined the Red Devils from Brentford where he spent six seasons, the former France youth international named Cameroon and France legends Samuel Eto’o and Zinedine Zidane as his role models.

Mbeumo played five AFCON matches

“Zidane and Eto’o when I was a kid and watching my first football matches, the World Cup, the CAN, the Euro.

“Eto’o? He was a very, very good player. A fantastic player. A good dribbler, a good finisher.

“He had everything for the striker position. Dribbles, shots, even passes. I think he was really complete.”

Mbeumo is a product of the Troyes academy

The 26-year-old represented France up to the U-21 level before switching to play for the Indomitable Lions in 2022.

He was involved in five matches as Cameroon suffered a 2-0 quarter-finals loss to hosts Morocco on January 9, in Rabat.

For Manchester United, the France born forward has made 29 appearances, scoring nine times with three assists.

Mbeumo is a product of the Troyes academy, and began his senior career there in 2016 for the club’s reserve team.

He transferred to Brentford in 2019, and was a member of their squad which gained promotion to the Premier League in 2021.
