The Guinean reacted quickly to get on the end of a header into the penalty area with a sliding finish following a corner kick in the 16th minute. He now has seventeen goals in all competitions this season after his club completed a successful bounce back from their Der Klassiker defeat to Bayern Munich last weekend.
The visitors’ cause was further boosted when Köln were reduced to ten players following a red card issued to defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey at the end of the first half.
Maximilian Beier proceeded to double the lead on the hour mark before Köln found a late consolation through Jakub Kaminski. The result keeps Dortmund eleven points back of Bayern through 25 rounds.
Following a heartbreaking UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of Atalanta a couple weeks earlier, all focus is on making a final push in the league for Guirassy and Die Schwarzgelben. The prolific goal scorer struggled during the first half of the season but is redeeming himself with 8 goals in 13 matches in 2026.
Next Saturday, they will host Augsburg and currently have a six-point advantage on third place Hoffenheim.
