Borussia Dortmund continue to suffer from inconsistent form in the Bundesliga but star striker Serhou Guirassy is doing his part. The Guinean national team hitman struck again as Dortmund secured a second straight league victory while rising Algerian striker Mohamed Amoura collected a match winning assist in Wolfsburg's road victory at Werder Bremen on Saturday.
After a headline grabbing four-goal performance in Dortmund's 6-0 thumping of Union Berlin last week, Guirassy opened the scoring early in the second half in a 2-0 victory at St. Pauli on Saturday. After a cross was momentarily cleared by the St. Pauli defense, Guirassy did well to get in position to finish from close range from Karim Adeyemi's shot attempt.
Guirassy, currently the leading scorer in the UEFA Champions League, now has 13 Bundesliga goals this season along with his 10 in continental competition. Eight minutes later Adeyemi confirmed victory for Dortmund who are currently in 10th place, 26 points back of leaders Bayern Munich and three points back of the Bundesliga teams in UEFA competition places. Guirassy will be in action again on Tuesday when Dortmund host French Ligue 1 side Lille in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash.
Over at the Weserstadion in Bremen, visitors Wolfsburg earned a 2-1 victory to move into 7th place on the Bundesliga log. Austrian midfielder Patrick Wimmer scored both goals for Die Grün-Weißen with his second coming from a helper by Amoura in the 50th minute.
The former ES Sétif created space on the left wing before passing to Wimmer who did the rest with a brilliant strike from distance.
The 24-year-old continues to enjoy a fruitful 2024-25 campaign with Wolfsburg, scoring nine goals and contributing eight assists in twenty-one Bundesliga matches. On loan from Belgian Pro League side Union Saint-Gilloise, Amoura is proving his quality in one of Europe's elite leagues with Wolfsburg activating a €15 million purchase option to acquire the Algerian.
