Bundesliga: Kofane stars in Leverkusen draw; Diomande extends goal contribution streak

Christian Kofane and Yan Diomande continued their strong form in the Bundesliga on Saturday with important contributions for their clubs in the early slate of matches.

Rising Cameroonian striker Kofane produced an excellent finish as well as an assist on Leverkusen’s third goal, even as the visitors conceded late to settle for a 3-3 draw at Freiburg.

For a while, the 19-year-old was relegated to substitute duties following his strong performances with Cameroon at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. But after coming off the bench to assist a late equalizer in his club’s 1-1 draw against Mainz on February 28, Kofane returned to the eleven and has scored in back-to-back matches.

Signed from Spanish second tier club Albacete ahead of the current season, Kofane is progressing well with his adaptation to the high standard of the German top flight with 7 goals and 5 assists in 35 matches across all competitions.

Over in eastern Germany, another African starlet is now firmly established as one of European club football’s top young talents. Ivorian forward Yan Diomande sparked a 2-1 comeback victory for RB Leipzig by scoring the equalizer in the 76th minute against Augsburg.

The 19-year-old has now produced three goals and an assist in his last four matches, with his pace and growing strength fully on display for an excellent finish after running onto Conrad Harder’s pass.

An own goal in stoppage time completed the comeback victory for RB Leipzig to move them level with fourth place Stuttgart. Diomande now has 11 goals and 6 assists in 27 appearances as his remarkable 2025-26 campaign continues.

Also of note, another young Ivorian attacker helped his team to victory with a late assist from Bazoumana Touré as surprise third place holders Hoffenheim earned a 4-2 result at Heidenheim.
