Late Tuesday, EFL Championship side Burnley FC announced the departure of forward Andréas Hountondji on loan to Belgium's Standard Liège for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

The 22-year-old struggled for playing time with the loan move giving the Benin national team player an opportunity to regain his form. Hountondji joined the English club from France's Caen on a €4 million fee ahead of the ongoing campaign but opportunities have been limited in a strike force that includes South Africa's Lyle Foster, Zian Flemming and veteran Jay Rodriguez among others.

Hountondji has only managed nine appearances for Burnley since joining with no goals. Born in France in the Île-de-France region, the striker made his name in French football with a breakout 2023-24 season on loan at Ligue 2 club Rodez AF where he accumulated fourteen goals and four assists in thirty-four matches.

The loan to Standard Liège is a great opportunity for Hountondji in a team that has the worst scoring record in the Belgian top division. Currently 10th in the 16-team table, Standard Liège have only managed a league worst 12 goals in 20 matches this season.
