Burundi approach Kaizer Chiefs for Cedric Kaze’s services

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze is poised for a return to the international stage following a formal approach from the Burundi Football Association.

According to FARPost, the Burundian FA has reached out to Amakhosi to secure the 44-year-old’s services in a technical advisory role for their crucial AFCON qualifying double-header against Chad later this month.

The request underlines the high regard in which Kaze is held in his homeland. Between 2007 and 2015, he climbed the ranks of Burundi’s national structures, from the Under-17s to the senior side.

His domestic record in Burundi remains legendary, having steered Atlético Olympic to back-to-back league titles (2010/11 and 2011/12) while scooping consecutive Coach of the Year accolades.

Chiefs’ Kaze Set for Burundi Return in AFCON Qualifier Role

While the FIFA international break traditionally pauses club football, the timing is delicate. Chiefs are currently navigating a rollercoaster season in the Betway Premiership. Despite a promising start, a recent slump saw them bundled out of the CAF Confederation Cup and lose ground in the title race.

However, the schedule seems to favour the move. There is a gap as Chiefs’ next fixture after Saturday’s clash against Magesi FC isn’t until April 7 against Orbit College FC.

Kaze has been the architect behind Chiefs’ defensive transformation, turning a leaky backline into one of the league’s most disciplined units.

His stock rose significantly during his partnership with Nasreddine Nabi—a tenure that yielded two league titles and a CAF Confederation Cup silver medal—proving he remains one of the continent’s most respected tactical minds.

With Burundi desperate for his expertise to navigate the tricky preliminary ties against Chad, the ball is now in Kaizer Chiefs’ court to sanction the short-term release of their co-coach.
