Shrader Korbin, Katoto Marie-Antoinette, Renard Wendie, Kadidiatou and Tarciane scored Lyon’s other goals. Eloissaint Roseline’s solitary strike provided a consolation for Nantes.
In a reaction, the Malawian said she was happy with her contribution to the game. She scored a day after being named alongside her sister Temwa as among the 10 nominees for the CAF award.
“We started with a goal and an assist. The energy is high and the focus is sharp. Your voices drive me—let’s make today unforgettable!” she posted on her Facebook page.
Chawinga has since switched her attention to national team duties. She has since left France for Angola for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Thursday.
“Destination Luanda! When national team duty calls,” Tabitha tweeted.
The Scorchers of Malawi will host the reverse fixture next week. The overall best team over the two legs will qualify for the WAFCON finals.
In a post-match interview with his club’s media, Lyon coach Jonatan Giráldez hailed his team’s all-round display.
“We had plenty of chances, and even though we conceded a goal, it was still a very good match overall. It’s also important to note that six different players scored today; that’s a real satisfaction for the team,” the Spanish coach said.
