The DR Congolese star received the honor during the CAF Awards ceremony held on Wednesday in Rabat, Morocco. Mayele triumphed over two strong contenders for the prize:
Mohamed Chibi, his Pyramids teammate and one of the most consistent full-backs in Africa last season.
Oussama Lamlaoui, the influential RS Berkane midfielder.
Mayele’s award comes on the back of a spectacular 2024/2025 campaign. He finished as the top scorer of the CAF Champions League, netting nine goals that powered Pyramids FC to their first-ever Champions League title. He also found the net against Al Ahli Saudi in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, further showcasing his impact on the big stage.
The recognition caps an exceptional week for the striker. On Sunday, Mayele helped lead the DR Congo national team to the playoff round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, after defeating Nigeria on penalties in the decisive final of the African qualifying playoffs.
