CAFCC: “Asante Kotoko is not going to Morocco as losers” – Karim Zito

Head coach of Asante Kotoko Karim Zito has expressed confidence that the club will give off a good game in the reverse fixture of the CAF Confederation Cup against Wydad Athletic Club.

The record Ghana Premier League holders suffered a 1-0 loss against the Moroccan giants courtesy Joseph Bakasu’s second half strike at the Accra Sorts Stadium last Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors will be the guests of the 22-time Botola Pro champions at the King Mohammed VI Stadium in the return encounter and coach Karim Zito remains confident of a good output.

Asante Kotoko suffered a first leg defeat in Accra

“Anything can happen when we go there and we are not going there as losers, we are going there to stamp our feet and play better than what we did here [Accra],” Karim Zito said.

“If I compare the Kwara United game with the WAC match, I was not satisfied with my boys based on decisions on the field of play but that is part of football.

“That doesn’t mean we have been eliminated, it’s the first step [because] when we were going to Kwara United nobody gave us a dog’s chance but we were able to do something.”

Coach Karim Zito has named his final squad for the journey to Morocco with number one goalkeeper Mohamed Camara suspended for the game after picking a red card in the first leg. The team will fly out of Accra on Wednesday, October 22 for Casablanca for the game on Sunday.

A win for Kotoko or Wydad in both legs will see them qualify for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup Group stage, a stage Kotoko has struggled to reach in the past years.
