CAFCC: “Kotoko players must go all out against Kwara United” – Michael Akuffo

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Michael Akuffo has urged the club’s playing body to give their all in the 2025 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors will square off against Nigeria outfit, Kwara United for the preliminary round of the competition with the first leg set for the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday September 21.

Akuffo, who won three consecutive Ghana Premier League titles with the two time African champions, believes the players are the best architects to drive the club far in the continental campaign.

“The club has every right to be in that competition and especially to get into the group stage and then to the quarter final, to the semifinals and to the finals,” Michael Akuffo told Radio Gold.

Players have to get dynamics of coaches

“Just that the players have to get the dynamics of the coaches and [to be] tactically disciplined when they go on the field of play and I think with that why not.

“If he [coach Karim Zito] was able to do it with Dreams fc, he can do it with Kumasi Asante Kotoko. My emphasis is always on players trying to adopt the coach’s system, understand the system and then on the field of play you will be able to apply those systems, that is transitioning when attacking and transition when defending and we are good to go.” He added.

Asante Kotoko will travel to play Kwara United in Ilorin for the reverse fixture a week after the first leg. The Porcupine Warriors have won the Ghana Premier League 25 times with 10 FA Cups in their trophy cabinet. They are yet to win the revised CAF Champions League having lifted the African Cup of Champions Clubs twice in 1970 and 1983.
