CAFCC: Zamalek going for a double against Zesco United – Gamal

Zamalek head coach Moatamed Gamal has cautioned his team not to relax despite coming up against a winless Zesco United side during their matchday five of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage campaign on Sunday.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference ahead of their Group D clash against the Zambian Super League outfit at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Gamal maintained their desire was to seal a double against their opponents.

Zesco United have struggled in the ongoing 2025-26 group stage campaign and lost 1-0 to Zamalek in the reverse fixture played at Cairo International Stadium in Egypt.

Zamalek focus is to seal double over Zesco

“We know Zesco is a very good team and they will want to win at home which makes it very difficult for us,” Gamal told reporters on Saturday ahead of the fixture.

“Even if we are on top of the table, there is just a small difference between us and other teams. We have not qualified yet for the next stage. Our focus here is to beat Zesco United again and return home with maximum points.”

Gamal added: “We have come here prepared, we only have eight points, and the teams behind us have seven, so it means we can only qualify if we win this game, and the last one. We are determined to achieve our goal.”

Zamalek ready to face Zesco United

Speaking on behalf of the players, Zamalek captain Mahmoud Hamdy said his team was ready for the fixture despite being played away.

“We are ready for the game, we know Zesco is not easy to beat but we played them before and know what to do now. Our aim is to get maximum points and aim for qualification to the next round,” said Hamdy.

Zamalek tops Group D with eight points with Al Masry and Kaizer Chiefs lying second and third respectively while Zesco United is at the bottom with naught points.

Out of four matches so far, the Timu ya Ziko have not registered a win. They have lost all their four matches.
