Sudanese giants Al Hilal expressed their desire to play their CAF Champions League quarterfinal home match in Libya. The Al Hilal board convened to discuss pertinent matters regarding the club and made the decision to play in Benghazi.

The Omdurman outfit have been using Mauritania to stage their Champions League group stage ties. Hilal have also hosted their domestic league home matches in the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott after joining the West African nation's top flight Super D1 league this season due to the war in Sudan.

The Hilal board did not reveal why they are opting for a change of venue. Nonetheless, sources stated Al Hilal wants to utilize the potential huge support that they will get in Benghazi for their crucial continental mission. Many Sudanese nationals have taken refuge in the North African nation after fleeing the civil war in their country. Getting fans to attend matches in Libya will not be a problem for Hilal.

Furthermore, the Hilal board also threatened to sue people who happened to sell the club’s merchandise without its consent this week.

Al Hilal under the guidance of Congolese tactician Florent Ibenge enjoyed a superb Champions League campaign after they topped Group A to qualify for the quarterfinals ahead of MC Alger, Young Africans and TP Mazembe.
