CAF Champions League: ASC Jaraaf escape Cameroon with first leg draw

Cameroon’s Colombe Sportive and ASC Jaraaf of Senegal played out a 0-0 first leg draw in Yaoundé from their CAF Champions League clash on Sunday.

There were no goals at the Stade Ahmadou Ahinjo but it was an energetic and entertaining first leg. Colombe, in stark contrast to Cameroon’s CAF Confederation Cup representative Aigle Royal, gave their opponents a difficult time with a modern style that employed high pressing.

After struggling to adapt to the style of the hosts in the first half, Jaraaf played better in the second half and could have stole a result in the 79th minute. However, a volley attempt was deflected just off target.

Colombe made a late push in stoppage time and a hopeful long ball into the Jaraaf penalty area was poorly dealt with. After a failure to clear, the ball landed at the feet of Eyango Priso Hugues but the substitute fired his shot over the bar.

Despite failing to score, Colombe will take strength from a strong competitive debut to the 2025-26 season ahead of the second leg next week in Senegal. The two teams will meet again next Sunday at the Stade Lat-Dior in Thiès.
