Young African (Yanga SC) head coach Sead Ramovic has revealed his readiness to help the Tanzanian champions have a great campaign in the CAF Champions League this season.
The Timu ya Mwanachi will begin their group stage campaign with a home game against Sudanese giants Al Hilal at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Tuesday.
Ahead of the game, Ramovic, who has only been with the team for a few days having been appointed as the head coach replacing Miguel Gamondi before the recent FIFA international break said he will not use that as an execuse if Yanga fail to perform.
“It’s true that it’s only been a few days since I started working with the team, but I don’t want to use that as an excuse for not performing well,” Ramovic told reporters. “I knew a lot about this team before I arrived, and now that I’m here, I enjoy working with players who are well-matured, self-aware, and highly motivated to succeed.
“We need to start well, especially since we are playing at home. The players we have give us a good chance to do that because of their determination and hunger for success.”
Ramovic continued: “Everything we are doing is being implemented step by step, and I believe this will enable us to improve quickly. Im my team I don’t have star player, every player is a star, I put all my players in the same level while considering what they offer the team.
“It is my first time in Champions League football and it is a great honour to participate in such a competition. And I am happy I will be doing this with one of the biggest teams in Africa, Yanga, I always like to see my players playing as a team, because even if you apply any tactics, if your players are not one team, you will not achieve any success.”
Apart from Yanga, other teams in Group A include Al Hilal, MC Alger of Algeria, and TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
