Nigeria Premier Football League champions Remo Stars advanced to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after defeating US Zilimandjou of Comoros at at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Friday.
The Sky Blue Stars came into the second leg with a commanding 4-0 victory at the same venue. Remo Stars maintained their dominance and composure, ensuring there was no room mistakes and adding another goal to their aggregate lead in the 73rd minute when Alex Oyowah stepped up to convert a penalty, handing Remo Stars a 1-0 win.
The victory means that the Nigerian champions finished the double header with a 5-0 aggregate result.
Remo Stars now set up a clash with South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the second preliminary round. Sundowns, former CAF Champions League winners and perennial contenders, will present a far tougher challenge.
Coach Daniel Ogunmodede’s men will be looking to make history by pushing further into the competition.
