Tunisian side US Monastir cruised to the next round of the CAF Champions League after comfortably beating Sierra Leone champions East End Lions 7-1 on aggregate. The Tunisian side won 3-1 in Sunday’s second leg played in Tunis.
Monastir broke the deadlock only two minutes into the game through a header from Ivorian defender Naude Zeguei. A defensive lapse by the visitors gifted Moez Haj Ali the chance to double the lead five minutes later with a cool finish.
After the resumption, East End surprisingly pulled one back when Ali Conteh capitalized on a communication error between the Monastir defense to slot home. Nonetheless, Monastir made sure there was no comeback as an Alpha Kamara own goal handed the home side the win they needed.
In the second round, Monastir will face the winner between Ghanaian side Bibiani Goldstars and Algerian outfit JS Kabylie.
