Veteran Zambian coach Dan Kabwe has called on Power Dynamos to improve their standards ahead of their matchday two fixture of the CAF Champions League against defending champions Pyramids FC.
The Zambian Premier League champions kicked off their group campaign with a 3-0 defeat against RS Berkane in Morocco. In the game at the Municipal Stadium on Saturday. Dynamos conceded twice within the first 16 minutes, beginning with an early own goal by captain Aaron Katebe in the 12th minute.
Three minutes later, the last season’s Confederation Cup winners doubled their lead when Haytam Manaout unlocked the defence with an assist that found Mounir Chouiar, who finished into the bottom-left corner.
Despite coach Osward Mutapa’s attempt to shift the momentum with the introduction of Chifundo Mphasi for Jackson Mulambia, the hosts scored a third goal in the 65th minute when defender, Dominic Chanda, conceded a penalty, which Paul Bassene converted to seal their victory.
“It is a wake-up call for power dynamos; they need to raise the standard. Where they are is no child’s play. It was water under the bridge; they have to pick up the pieces. There are so many lessons learned. Work on your weakness,” said Kabwe as quoted by Bola News.
“Pyramids is a different ball game. You are our flag carrier, and we believe in you. For your next game in front of your supporters, prepare well. It is not an easy game, but with proper planning we can get the points at home.
“They deserved to be in this group. What they need is to raise the standard and be counted among the best.”
Dynamos will host Pyramids at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday. The Egyptian side kicked off their campaign with a 3-0 victory against Rivers United of Nigeria.
