Power Dynamos head coach Osward Mutapa has declared his side ready for their matchday two fixture of the CAF Champions League Group A clash against Egyptian side Pyramids FC at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The two sides will face off after registering mized outings in their matchday one. The Zambian Super League champions endured a tough start to the campaign after suffering a 3-0 defeat against RS Berkane.
Dynamos conceded twice within the first 16 minutes, beginning with an early own goal by captain Aaron Katebe in the 12th minute.
Meanwhile, for Pyramids, who are the defending champions, they kicked off their quest to win a second Champions League trophy with a 3-0 thumping of Nigeria’s Rivers United.
Reflecting on last week’s disappointing start against Moroccan side Berkane, Mutapa told reporters during a pre-match press briefing the team is ready for the Pyramids challenge.
“The boys are excited about the challenge that lies ahead. Nothing is impossible in football. We just have to give it our all. Playing in the Champions League is motivation on its own,” said Mutapa.
Mutapa was under no illusion that the match will be easy but insisted that Power still have a lot to play for in the competition.
“Football is for the brave. Today you win, tomorrow you can lose. We anticipate a tough game. Yes, we lost, but we are not out,” he emphasised, adding that the team’s chances of progressing from the group remain very much alive.
Mutapa was joined by Midfielder, Salulani Phiri, who echoed the coach’s confidence and belief in the squad’s collective responsibility. “We know what we have to do,” explained Phiri.
The defeat against Berkane left Dynamos joint bottom of Group A, alongside Nigeria’s Rivers United, who also suffered a 3-0 defeat in their match against Pyramids FC of Egypt.
