CAF Confederation Cup: “Asante Kotoko cannot run away from pressure” – Sarfo Duku

Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko know the pressure that awaits them in the CAF Confederation Cup against Nigerian club Kwara United.

The Porcupine Warriors will host the Ilorin-based club at the adopted Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 21 in the first leg from the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors are yet to win any of the revised continental club competitions since claiming the African Cup of Champions Clubs twice in 1970 and 1983.

Ahead of the first leg encounter against the Nigerian side, the Communications Director of the Ghana FA Cup champions, Samuel Sarfo Duku, admitted to pressure.

“It is Kotoko that people expect that when they go to Africa they should expect some magic so with that I can tell you that it is an onus task on us,” Sarfo Duku told Radio Gold.

“Of course you can’t run away from the pressure because of our stature, the name, the support base, everything.

“You mention our name and Zamalek and all those teams that we have been pampering will begin to shiver. It’s a big task and we can’t do it alone, we need the support of all Ghanaians, we expect that Ghanaians will fill the stadium in numbers on Sunday.

“Because we know that, there are a lot of Nigerians are in living in Ghana [and] if we don’t take care by the time we get there late, they would have filled the stadium to capacity.” He added.

Asante Kotoko began the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League with a 1-0 win against former champions, Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park, a morale booster ahead of the continental campaign.
