A 0-0 result in the second leg at home was enough for Algerian giants CR Belouizdad to advance past Egypt’s Al Masry and advance to the CAF Confederation Cup semifinals on Saturday evening.

After an excellent performance in the first leg in Egypt, Saturday’s visitors paid the price for failing to convert their chances after managing only a 1-1 first leg draw for all their hard work. The result allowed CRB to focus on maintaining a clean sheet in the second leg, which was enough to allow the Algiers club to advance via the away goals rule.
Compared to their attacking performance in the first leg in Port Suez, Al Masry were far more muted and failed to create much danger for CRB goalkeeper Farid Chaal. The best chance of the match for either team fell in favor of the host side, when Jean-Charles Ahoua fired off target in first half stoppage time after receiving a low cross.
But otherwise, there was little action of note with the Algerian hosts content to hold onto their lead at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in the Algerian capital.
The result sees CRB advance to the semifinals, where they will face either Egyptian giants Zamalek or Republic of Congo’s AS Otôho. They will have their second leg clash on Sunday in Cairo, where Zamalek are favorites to advance.
