Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has admitted to being drawn in a tough group of the CAF Confederation Cup but explained why starting with a home will be vital in their qualification campaign.
The Wekundu wa Msimbazi will begin their Group A campaign against Bravos do Maquis at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Wednesday. Other teams in the group include CS Sfaxien, a three-time Confederation Cup champion, and CS Constantine.
“Our group is tough, with strong opponents like CS Sfaxien and CS Constantine, but we are confident. Starting with a home win is vital, and we are ready to fight for every point,” Davids told the media ahead of their Group A opener.
Heading into the fixture, Simba won their Tanzanian Premier League fixture against Pamba Jiji FC 1-0 and the South African coach believes it was a good preparations for the clash.
“This game was essential for preparing the squad for the CAF Confederation Cup. It was a tough encounter, but the intensity and physicality were exactly what we needed to ensure the players are match-ready.”
Simba has won 22 league titles second to Yanga who has won 30 Premier League titles and five domestic cups and has participated in CAF Champions League multiple times.
Apart from Yanga, which is considered giants of Tanzania and CAF Champions League finalist, Simba has participated in CAF tournaments, but with just quarter final as their best performance.
