Ghanaian clubs have struggled to find suitable venues to host continental matches due to a lack of CAF standard stadia in the West African nation.
Reigning Ghana Premier League champions Gold Stars had to move from Bibiani to host Algeria’s JS Kabylie in the CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg at the Accra Stadium with Kotoko suffering the same fate.
The latest news happening to Kotoko is a huge blow as the Porcupine Warriors fans will be denied continental football at their home ground once again.
The Ghana men’s national team had to wait for a last-minute conditional approval of the Baba Yara Stadium to host Nigeria in the first leg of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff. The Black Stars have since hosted 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Accra with the final game against Comoros set for the capital on October 12.
