Asante Kotoko navigated a potentially tricky second leg to advance in the CAF Confederation Cup with a 1-0 victory at Kwara United on Sunday. The Porcupine Warriors advanced to the second qualifying round with a 5-3 aggregate victory.
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Kwara United went into the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta with a goal deficit of 3-4 from the first leg encounter in Accra, with the away goals scored in Ghana giving them a chance to advance with a one-goal victory.
However, it was Asante Kotoko who took the fight to the hosts and a goal in the 53rd minute from promising midfielder Hubert Gyau was enough for the visitors to advance. Kwara created plenty of opportunities but it was a frustrating outing for the hosts, who failed to provide the necessary quality in the final third.
Kotoko will now turn their attention to face Moroccan side Wydad AC, who they will face in the second round.
