Singida Black Stars recorded their first win in the CAF Confederation Cup after a 1–0 Group C victory over Congolese side AS Otoho d’Oyo at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar. A slow tempo to the game helped the Tanzanian side take home maximum points against Otoho.
The tie in Zanzibar had a slow start, with both teams being extra cautious. It took the home side twenty minutes to create a meaningful attempt on goal. Ivorian import Joseph Guede Gnadou beat his marker and unleashed a low drive that hit the woodwork and went over the goal line in the 20th minute for Singida.
A minute later, the visitors had a superb chance against the run of play, but it was squandered by Samy Mampembe. In the 37th minute, Singida took the lead through a composed build-up as Kenyan Elvis Rupia slotted home from close range after a failed clearance from Otoho’s defense.
The hosts carried on from the first half in search of a second goal. Gnadou tested Otoho goalkeeper Aboubacar Doumbia from a tight angle, but the Malian goalkeeper parried the ball away. Otoho failed to cause too many problems for the home side in the second half, but second-half substitute Japhet Mankou’s audacious overhead kick effort was well saved by Singida goalkeeper Metacha Mnata in the 74th minute.
