CAF Confederation Cup: Wanderers overcome Jwaneng Galaxy

Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers marked their return to continental football with a 1-0 CAF Confederation Cup first leg victory over Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana on Sunday.

The Blantyre-based team earned the win in Lilongwe courtesy of skipper Felix Zulu’s strike with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.

The two teams seemed to have equaled power for the better part of the game with a goalless first half followed by some lively exchanges in the second phase of the game. Attacking midfielder Zulu struck from a goal mouth scramble to sneak his effort past Galaxy goalkeeper Victor James.

The Malawians will carry the slender lead going into the return leg at Obert Itani Chilume Stadium in Botswana on Saturday.

The Nomads have returned to the continental cup for the first time since 2018 when they were hammered 6-1 on aggregate by Congolese side AS Vita Club at the same stage of the Confederation Cup.
