Hakim Ziyech’s cross led to the only goal of the match for WAC when Azam defender Pascal Msindo turned the ball into his own net in the 64th minute. Walid Nassi finished from a rebound in second half stoppage time to finish off the Ligi Kuu Tanzania Bara club.
Needing at least a draw to keep their hopes alive of reaching the quarterfinals, the visitors from Tanzania put in a heroic effort at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca. However, their failure to secure a victory left an opening for Maniema to seize second place.
And the Congolese club did their part at the Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi. In the other group match played simultaneously, a 3-0 victory over already eliminated Nairobi United was more than enough for Maniema Union to take advantage.

Two goals from Beni Namboka in the opening half hour left little doubt about the result before Jeancy Mboma Kinda added one more goal for the hosts just before halftime.
For the club founded in 2005, it will be their first appearance in the knockout stages of a CAF interclub competition in their history. WAC, meanwhile, are considered the favorites to lift the competition after acquiring several notable high priced signings.
