CAFCC: Goalless draw settles Zamalek and Al Masry clash

Zamalek and Al Masry played out a 0–0 draw on Sunday evening at Borg El Arab Stadium, in their third-round group stage clash of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The match witnessed attempts from both sides, but Al Masry created the first real danger in the 21st minute. Mostafa El Ash delivered a cross that deflected off Isho towards Zamalek’s goal, forcing goalkeeper Mohamed Awad into a brilliant save, pushing the ball out for a corner.

Al Masry continued to apply pressure, and nearly broke the deadlock when Salah Mohsen sent in a cross to Ameed Sawafta, who found himself one-on-one with Awad. However, Adam Kaied made a crucial last-ditch intervention to block the shot and keep Zamalek in the game.

Zamalek responded in the 32nd minute through Brazilian forward Juan Bezerra, who weaved his way through Al Masry’s defense after a pass from Mohamed Ismail, before firing an effort that goalkeeper Mahmoud Hamdy saved in two stages.

The White Knights came closest to scoring in the 39th minute, when Seifeddine Jaziri struck a direct free-kick in the 39th minute, only to see his effort crash against the crossbar.

In the dying moments of the match, Al Masry nearly snatched a late winner in the 90th minute. Omar El Saai delivered a cross to Abdelrahim Deghmoum, but the Algerian winger’s left-footed shot drifted just wide of the post.

With this result, Al Masry raised their tally to seven points, maintaining top spot in Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup. Zamalek sit second with five points, while South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs occupy third place with four points. ZESCO United of Zambia remain bottom of the group without a point.
