The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have opened an investigation into the post-game violence that involved ASC Jaraaf and USM Alger fans. The CAF Confederation Cup matchday two game between the two clubs in Dakar ended in a barren 0-0 stalemate.

The Algerian side blamed the home supporters for the post-match violence. USMA stated their fans were attacked by the home crowd after the game ended. This claim has been refuted by the Senegal side Jaraaf. USMA attacker Ismail Belkacemi labelled the incident “being in hell” and “expected in some African countries.”

ASC Jaraaf officially stated USMA supporters failed to follow certain guidelines and are to blame for the violence. The club also further blamed the North African club's fans for bringing flammable objects to the stadium and not heeding calls from the local police to abide by the stadium rules.

CAF officially stated its discipline committee will further look into the incident. CAF has also disclosed that appropriate measures will be taken if necessary.

In a similar incident, on Sunday some Tunisian media outlets claimed fans of Tanzanian club Simba attacked CS Sfaxien fans after Simba won their third Confederation Cup group tie in dramatic fashion.
