CAF CL: Good news for Young Africans and JS Kabylie as CAF sanctions AS FAR over crowd incidents in Al Ahly clash

Moroccan club AS FAR have officially announced receiving a notification from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding disciplinary sanctions related to crowd incidents during their Champions League match against Egyptian side Al Ahly.

Al Ahly had previously submitted an official complaint to CAF following the events that took place during the two sides’ meeting in the second round of the group stage of the Champions League.

According to AS FAR’s statement, CAF’s Disciplinary Committee, during its meeting held on December 17, 2025, ruled that the club violated Articles 82 and 83 of CAF’s Disciplinary Code, in addition to Article 32 of the Safety and Security Regulations. The violations were linked to inappropriate behavior by sections of the club’s supporters, which were deemed to undermine the principles of sportsmanship and threaten the safety and integrity of the competition.

As a result, CAF decided to impose the following sanctions:

  • AS FAR will play two upcoming home matches behind closed doors in CAF interclub competitions.

  • Financial penalties were also imposed as follows:

    • $20,000 for the use of laser devices.

    • $15,000 for throwing water bottles onto the pitch.

    • $15,000 for throwing several balls onto the field of play during the match, in violation of fair play principles and competition integrity.

    • $50,000 for throwing a dangerous object made of iron, which posed a threat to the safety of players and match officials.

The total amount of fines imposed on the club stands at $100,000, which must be paid within 60 days from the date of notification of the decision.

The match itself ended in a 1-1 draw between Al Ahly and AS FAR, in the second round of the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

AS FAR will now host Young Africans and JS Kabylie behind closed doors in the remaining two home games in the group stage.
