Fiston Mayele showed his quality on the big stage once again as Pyramids FC edged RS Berkane 1-0 to win the 2025 CAF Super Cup in Cairo, Egypt.
The clash between the winners of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup saw both teams largely cancel each other out. However, African club champions Pyramids prevailed courtesy of Mayele, who latched onto a pass from right back Mohamed Chibi and fired his effort past RSB goalkeeper Munir El Kajoui in the 75th minute.
It was a disappointing result for the Moroccan champions, who did well to control the match and perhaps looked more dangerous than their hosts. However, despite the acquisition of high priced playmaker Mounir Chaouiar and his fellow French-Moroccan attacker Zinedine Machach, the Confederation Cup holders struggled to be potent in the final third.
After an indifferent start to the 2025-26 season in domestic league play, Pyramids are finding their form. After stunning Saudi big spenders Al Ahli to advance to the semifinals of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup a couple weeks ago, the Cairo club won their first trophy of the season on Saturday and will return to Egypt’s Nile League on Tuesday against Pharco.
RSB have now failed to win their last three matches in all competitions. Currently third in Morocco’s top flight Botola Pro after four matches, they will turn their focus to the CAF Champions League with a difficult clash against Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya next weekend.
