CAF WCL: Sundowns Ladies fired up for COSAFA Qualifiers

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies players Thato Letsoso and Tiisetso Makhubela have spoken of their readiness for the CAF Women’s Champions League’s COSAFA qualifiers.

Makhubela told the club’s website that they are confident after edging tough opponents University of Cape Town 1-0 in a recent Hollywoodbets Super League match.

“The energy in training is unbelievable as every player is pushing hard and raising the standard,” she said. “We are in a good place mentally and physically, and that is exactly what you want before a big tournament.”

“Winning is always such a confidence booster, everyone is performing at their peak and there is so much excitement in the camp, especially as we build up to COSAFA.”

Letsoso echoed the sentiments of Makhubela, saying “the energy in training is unbelievable as every player is pushing hard and raising the standard.”

Sundowns will gun for their third consecutive COSAFA title at the tournament which gets underway in Johannesburg this Friday up to 31 August.

The South Africans will compete in Group A against debutants Beauties FC from Namibia, Zambia’s Zesco Ndola Girls and Ntopwa United from Malawi.

Sundowns have never lost in regulation time of the COSAFA qualifiers and the only time they failed to defend the title was in 2022 when Green Buffaloes from Zambia stunned the South Africans on post-match penalties.
