CAF Women’s Awards 2025: Nigeria, Morocco, and Zambia lead nominee list

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the nominees for the women’s categories of the CAF Awards 2025, an event that honors the best female football performers in Africa over the past twelve months.

Balanced Representation, but Three Nations Stand Out

The selection reflects the diversity of African women’s football, with talent from across the continent. However, three countries stand out for their strong presence: Nigeria, Morocco, and Zambia. Together, they account for most of the nominations in major categories, from Player of the Year to Goalkeeper of the Year, including interclub and young player awards.

Nigeria is represented by players such as Rasheedat Ajibade (Paris Saint-Germain) and Esther Okoronkwo (AFC Toronto), along with Chiamaka Nnadozie, a two-time winner of the Goalkeeper of the Year award, now playing for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Morocco confirms its rise with Ghizlaine Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy. The country is also represented in the coaching category with Jorge Vilda and Lamia Boumehdi, and in clubs with AS FAR, a regular finalist in the Women’s Champions League.

Zambia has established itself as a major player in African women’s football. The Copper Queens have several representatives in key categories, including Barbra Banda (Orlando Pride), last year’s winner, and Rachael Kundananji (Bay FC)
