A packed Tripoli International Stadium was left disappointed after hosts Al Ittihad were held to a 0-0 draw by Egyptian club Al Masry in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) clash on Friday.
It was a frustrating home leg for the Libyan Premier League side, who looked more dangerous but could not find a breakthrough against a strong Al Masry defense.
There were plenty of forays into the visitors’ half as well as set piece opportunities for the hosts but time and time again, the finishing was lacking and the visitors from Egypt did well to make life difficult for the Ittihad attack.
The hosts hit the post inside twenty minutes after a busy sequence in the Masry penalty area but that was the closest Ittihad got to an opening goal until the late stages. A couple more chances arrived in the final ten minutes but in the end, it was a satisfying result for the Egyptian club who will have a good opportunity to win the tie when the teams meet again for the second leg in Suez.
The second leg will take place next Sunday with a place in the group stage at stake.
