CAFCC: Blackout for Kaizer Chiefs versus AS Simba game

Kaizer Chiefs have given a disappointing update to their fans wishing to watch their CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) match against AS Simba on television.

The Soweto giants arrived in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Thursday ahead of the second preliminary round match at TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi.

AmaKhosi have since sent a message to their fans who will not be able to watch the game in person.

In a statement, Chiefs say the game will not be broadcast live on familiar channels such as SuperSport Television and the South African Broadcasting Corporation for Mzansi’s faithful.

“Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup clash between AS Simba and Kaizer Chiefs in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, will unfortunately not be broadcast live on television,” the statement reads.

“The hosts were unable to secure broadcast rights with local broadcasters, which affects the availability of the feed.

“As the visiting team, Chiefs rely on the host broadcaster’s feed to relay the match to our partners in South Africa as it was done in the previous round in Angola.”

What options do Kaizer Chiefs fans have to follow the CAFCC match?

However, all is not completely lost. The media team for the Soweto giants has promised to work overtime to give live updates on the match.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience, but this matter is beyond our control. We will, however, endeavour to keep our supporters updated throughout the match via our official digital platforms – Facebook, X (Twitter) and Instagram,” the statement adds.

Meanwhile, Simba have ganged up with their rivals TP Mazembe to ensure a big crowd patronises the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round match.

Simba’s vice-chairman Christian Mwanda has urged the supporters to fill up the stadium and become a 12th player ensuring the stadium vibrates on Saturday.

Mazembe’s supporters’ coordinator Mario Kawel has since assured Simba that the Ravens’ faithful will turn up in large numbers at the stadium on Saturday.
