Zamalek SC has officially received a letter from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) requesting clarification regarding actions carried out by two groups of supporters prior to the club’s match against South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals. The match, held last Wednesday in Cape Town, ended in a goalless draw.
CAF also inquired about the presence of a number of Zamalek fans at the team’s final training session at the match venue.
In its letter, the African football governing body asked Zamalek to provide full details of the incidents that occurred before the match. CAF confirmed that the situation passed peacefully, with no injuries reported among the supporters—whether they had traveled from Egypt to support the team or were residents of South Africa.
CAF clarified that the events in question did not impact the conduct of the match, which concluded normally. The African football governing body granted Zamalek a one week deadline to respond to the letter.
Zamalek will host Stellenbosch in the second leg on Wednesday, April 9, at 4 PM GMT.
