Simba SC media officer Ahmed Ally has explained why their final game in the group stage of the Caf Confederation Cup against CS Constantine will be the most important one despite the team having qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition.

The Tanzanian Premier League giants qualified for the last sixteen after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Bravos do Maquis at the 11 de Novembro Stadium in Talatona, Angola on Sunday. It was Cameroon international Leonel Ateba, who scored for Simba to cancel out Abednego Mosiatlhaga first half strike.

The outcome of the game enabled Simba to reach 10 points, placing them in second position in Group A, just behind CS Constantine, who claimed a 3-0 victory over CS Sfaxien in their match to garner 12 points.

While Simba have put their leg in the last sixteen, Ally is not satisfied because he believes Simba deserve to lead the group.

“This qualifications means a lot to the team, to the Simba family, it also shows that we have managed to keep our good performances in the Caf competition despite at some points losing key players and replacing them,” Ally told Pan-Africa Football.

“We have now managed to reach the quarter-finals for six straight years and this is a great achievement and for you to know this has not been easy, if you look at teams that have consistency of playing in the quarter-final six times in Africa, they can’t reach three teams.

“If you look at our current group, the only team that was rated to be the top going into matches was Simba, because we have better ranking in Caf, and it is good we show that we were the best in the group by leading it at the end of the final matches.

“I am 100 percent sure it is possible (for Simba to top Group A), if everybody at Simba plays his role, there are others, who may think our final game doesn’t have any meaning for us, because we have already qualified, I want to tell Simba family that the last game is the most important game, so I urge Simba fans to bring the noise and help the players finish the job on a high.

“There is one important thing we are looking for, we want to top the group.”

Simba will now host Constantine at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Sunday, January 19 seeking a win to top the group.
