CAFCC: Serious injury dampens Etoile du Sahel victory

Etoile du Sahel overcame a first leg defeat to win 3–1 on aggregate in their CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) first round tie against Al Ahly Wad Madani. The Sudanese side could not hold their first-leg advantage from Tanzania a week ago as they fell in Sousse.

The Tunisian giants started the tie on a bright note after a Rayan Anen header broke the deadlock early. The home side piled on more pressure as Madani players opted to defend deep in their own half. Etoile could have added another but Madani goalkeeper Abdullah Adam Luke saved a penalty kick.

After the resumption, the visitors showed a glimpse of effort to return to the tie. An early second yellow for Yann Armand forced the Sudanese outfit to defend the narrow result.

Right after the hour mark, a collision between Etoile’s Oumar Bah and Madani’s Abdul Rahman Krongo resulted in a serious injury, causing the match to be interrupted for ten minutes. Étoile du Sahel wrapped up the win late through strikes from team captain Salah Ghedamsi and Fedi Ben Choug.

Etoile du Sahel will play Nairobi United of Kenya in the final qualifying round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
