CAFCC: Jwaneng Galaxy want to control the first leg – Connor

Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy FC coach Sean Connor has spoken about his Botswana team’s preparedness for Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup game against hosts Mighty Wanderers in Malawi.

The Englishman told the media in Lilongwe that he was looking forward to a positive start to the preliminary round, first leg match at Bingu National Stadium.

“First leg is very crucial. We want to make sure that when we go back to Botswana, we are in control of the game. Our focus now 100 percent is on the first leg,” Connor said.

Despite being relatively more experienced in the CAF competition than Wanderers, the Galaxy coach insisted that their past performance would have no bearing on the game in the Malawi capital.

“The past will have no influence on the game. It is a separate game. We have good history but with that history, comes expectations. I really think the past will have no influence on the pitch tomorrow. It is two teams against each other and that is all that matters,” Connor added.

Galaxy have done enough homework of rivals

The Botswana team’s mentor added that he has done his homework on what to expect from the TNM Super League heavyweights.

“We have watched a number of their games. We have phoned people so we have a fair idea of their strengths, weakness of what they will try to do and also exploit their weaknesses. You cannot underrate anybody in today’s football,” he added.

Earlier, Wanderers’ coach Bob Mpinganjira said he has done its best to analyze their opponents.

The return leg will be played at Obert Itani Chilume Stadium in Botswana on September 27.
