Asante Kotoko will walk into their second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup against Kwara United with a slim advantage on Sunday, September 28.
The FA Cup champions posted a hard fought 4-3 victory over Kwara United in the preliminary round at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 21, a result that left fans fuming ahead of the reverse fixture against the Federation Cup holders at the MKO Moshood Abiola Stadium.
Kotoko head coach, Abdul Karim Zito indicates that, the mistakes from the first leg have been corrected to avoid any mishap in the second game.
“I think this is the first time some of them [players] are playing this type of competition, it’s not easy but to me I’ve seen my mistakes and I have to rectify it before we go there,” Kari Zito said after the first leg.
“What I know about them, I know they are more experienced players, they are not young and when you are playing with experienced players, they will let you run and they will be standing there doing their own thing.
“We saw it and when you are playing such a team and you give them space, you will have problems so watch, we gave them a lot of space and when you look at all the goals they scored was space.
“If you give space and time definitely they will beat you but I’m also happy that we did our best and we got four goals [and] anything can happen in football.”
Kotoko are yet to win the revised CAF Confederation Cup despite lifting two African Clubs of Champions Cup [CAF Champions League] in 1970 and 1983 respectively. The winner of both legs will progress to face North African giants, Wydad Athletic Club in the second preliminary round.
