Former Harambee Stars head coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee has backed Kenyan Premier League outfit Nairobi United to get their first win in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.
The Nairobi-based side will face DR Congo giants AS Maniema Union in their matchday two. Nicknamed the Naibois, United started off their campaign with a 3-0 defeat against Wydad AC of Morocco.
“I have confidence that Nairobi United are going to win. They can’t lose all their games in the group,” said Mulee as quoted by Mozzart Sports. “I know the technical expertise that Salim and Muyoti bring, plus Rutto. I’ve worked with them, and they are top professionals.
“They are going to make Kenya proud. I believe this weekend will be a turning point for Nairobi United. They will win at home.”
Mulee added: “I want them to win so we can keep watching more continental matches in Kenya. And they have a chance to bring in more money, the more you win, the more you collect.”
United earned the right to represent Kenya in continental football after winning the 2025 FKF Cup, a victory that capped a sensational domestic campaign in which they achieved promotion to the FKF Premier League.
In their first preliminary round, the team faced Ugandan Premier League side NEC FC. The first leg in Uganda at the Hamz Stadium ended 2-2, before a 1-1 draw at Nyayo Stadium saw them advance on the away goals rule.
Against Etoile, United registered a shock 2-0 win in Nairobi. They headed for the return leg carrying a 2-0 advantage. During the contest, Etoile managed to level the scoreline at 2-2 in the normal time.
However, United held firm to win the shootout 7-6, and book their ticket to the group stage.
