Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has admitted that Asante Kotoko needs a miracle to eliminate Wydad Athletic Club from the CAF Confederation Cup.
Kotoko are in Casablanca as guests of WAC for the return leg of the competition on Friday, October 24 after suffering a 1-0 loss in the first fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium last weekend.
The record Ghana Premier League holders need to play above themselves and overturn the 1-0 deficit to qualify for the group stage of the competition but Agyemang Badu, who spent a season at Asante Kotoko believes his former club has a tall mountain to climb.
“Never write anything off in football but with is one you need quadruple chance, high level of chance and it’s unfortunate that the game they are going to play will not be easy for Kotoko,” Agyemang Badu told Radio Gold.
“They did very well at home, created some decent chances just as they also created some chances but you know the antics of these North Africans, if they are able to put a ball in your net in your country [then] tell yourself that it will be extremely difficult for you to pass through.
“I want Kotoko to qualify but they find themselves in a difficult situation and Kotoko will want to open up and if they don’t take care, they might be walloped as well [but] I trust the coach, he is well experienced, we saw what he did with the national U-20, we saw what he did at Dreams and against Kwara United but unfortunately this is not Kwara United.
“Let’s face the fact, the WAC team is more experienced, mature and they have everything more than Asante Kotoko for now and even if they go and play their hearts out, we will appreciate them so they must go all out and not be afraid of WAC.
Asante Kotoko are yet to win the CAF Confederation Cup since its inception in 2004 with Hearts of Oak being the only Ghanaian club to annex the trophy in its maiden edition after beating Kotoko in the finals in Kumasi.
