CAFCC: Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers FC re-sign Sulumba for third spell

Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers FC have re-signed striker Muhammad Sulumba to sharpen the team’s attack for the CAF Confederation Cup participation.

The veteran striker has penned a seven-month contract for his third spell with the seven-time TNM Super League champions.

The former Malawian international first signed for coach Bob Mpinganjira-led team in 2015 followed by a second stint in 2023. The 30-year-old returned home after cutting short his stay with Libyan second-tier side Al-Naser Zliten due to exhaustion of the quota for foreign players.

The former Polokwane City player burst on the scene around 2012 at Blantyre United (now defunct) before signing for Wanderers then crossing the floor to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. The striker’s search for greener pastures took him to Polokwane City in South Africa in 2018.

He eventually flirted with clubs in Iran and Bahrain in the last four seasons between stints back home at Wanderers (2022), Creck Sporting Club and Civil Sporting Club (2020). Speaking to Wanderers’ media, Mpinganjira described Sulumba as a big boost to the club’s continental and Super League campaigns.

Sulumba told Wanderers’ website that he hopes to contribute his talent and experience to propel the Nomads to desired levels. He also had spells at Civil Service United and Creck Sporting.
