CAFCC: Namibia’s Young African FC recruit two South Africans, eight others

Namibia’s Premier League outfit Young African FC have signed 10 players, including two from South Africa, ready for the 2025-2026 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Namibian cup kings take on Royal Leopards FC from Eswatini in the preliminary round stages of the continental cup.

Ahead of such an assignment, the Gobabis-based side has recruited South African defender Mlungisi Mkhwanazi from second-tier league side Casric Stars and his compatriot Lethabo Raphalo, formerly of Luthuli Brighates FC.

African have also signed Namibians Vaitavera Tjatindi (goalkeeper, formerly of African Stars), Motswana midfielder Viera Kazongominja from Mochudu Centre Chiefs FC and defender Okeri Maekopo from Ongos FC.

The Namibian cup holders have also signed on loan from Ongos midfielder Simon Elago, striker Nicodemus K. Haikali, midfielder Wangu B. Gome, while midfielder Tuzerehi H. Katipuja and defender Arthur Hindjou have come from Okahandja United FC.

Bolstering squad to compete

Commenting on the new arrivals, Young African chairman Maleagi Ngarizemo said they have invested in bolstering the squad to compete strongly in the Confederation Cup.

“We are thrilled to welcome these exceptional talents to Young African family. Each player brings a unique set of skills and a winning mentality that aligns perfectly with our philosophy. The signings are a clear testament of our intent to compete at the highest level,” he told the club’s media.

African host Royal Leopards in the first leg of the preliminary round at Obed Itani Stadium in Francistown, Botswana, on Saturday. The return leg will be played a week later at the Mbabane Stadium on September 26.
