CAFCC: AS Otohô D’Oyo deserved better against Stellenbosch FC – Seck

AS Otohô D’Oyo FC’s coach Sékou Seck says his Congolese side deserved better from their away 1-0 loss to South African opponents Stellenbosch FC on Sunday.

The Congo Ligue 1 champions seemed to have done enough to frustrate their South African hosts for the better part of the CAF Confederation Cup Group C match.

However, Steve Barker’s men found a way to secure the win courtesy of second-half substitute Ashley Cupido’s strike to break the hearts of AS Otohô at New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

In a post-match interview with SABC, Seck said he was gutted by the result, as he expected more from the game.

“We are so sad to lose the game, but football is like that. We were supposed to win or maybe share the points but next month we will try again,” he said.

Where does AS Otohô stand in the log table?

Stellenbosch now occupy second place in the group on a goal- aggregate behind leaders CR Belouizdad who eased to a home 2-0 victory over Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars in Algeria on Sunday.

Seck’s team travelled to South Africa without suspended skipper Béranger Itoua while right-winger Wilfrid Nkaya was left out for administrative reasons.

To reach the group phase, AS Otohô sailed past Ferroviário de Maputo, beating them 1-0 and 2-0 at home and away.

On the other hand, Stellenbosch made it to the group stage after seeing off 15 de Agosto de Akonibe 4-1 on aggregate in the second preliminary round last year.

Last season, Stellies reached the semifinal of the continental competition after overcoming then holders Zamalek. Before such a huge win, the Western Cape-based team had overcome Angolan side CD Lunda Sul, Stade Malien and Zamalek FC.
