Simba SC midfielder Augustine Okejepha has discussed their CAF Confederation Cup final first leg tie against RS Berkane at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, Morocco on Saturday.
The Msimbazi Reds reached the final following a 1-0 aggregate win against Stellenbosch of South Africa.
“I want to win my first trophy with Simba. It will be a dream come true and I can't wait to put in the hard work to help my team achieve this feat,” said the former Rivers United player. “RSB Berkane are no pushovers, but we can get a result today (Saturday).”
Simba defender Shomari Kapombe revealed players’ readiness for the big day, insisting they will not be intimidated by the Moroccan crowd.
“We have played in [front of] huge crowds before. We played Al Ahly in Cairo in an almost sold-out stadium, and we didn’t suffer much. We don’t have to fear anything, we have fought to be at this stage, the final, we deserve it, and it is the reason the players are more psyched to play at this stage,” said Kapombe.
“We know as Simba, we don’t have a good record here in Morocco, but that gives us even more confidence to go out there and erase such records. We have never been to the final before, but here we are, so everything is possible, even winning in Morocco is very possible.”
Simba’s journey to the final marks a significant milestone for Tanzanian football, as the club looks to become the first team from the country to lift the CAF Confederation Cup.
