Simba SC’s Information and Communications manager, Ahmed Ally, says the club is unfazed by their 2-0 first-leg defeat to RS Berkane in Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup final at Berkane Municipal Stadium.
RS Berkane’s first-leg triumph put them firmly on course for a third continental crown, with the decisive return leg taking place on May 25.
The Moroccan side made their intentions clear from the outset, applying early pressure, which yielded results within the first ten minutes. A well-delivered corner from Hamza El Moussaoui found Mamadou Camara, who rose highest to head home from close range and give Berkane a dream start in the eighth minute. Just six minutes later, Oussama Lamlaoui doubled Berkane’s lead with a well-taken finish after latching onto an incisive pass from Imad Riahi.
“The two goals they scored in their backyard here in Berkane, they will vomit when we play again in the return leg in Tanzania on May 25,” a confident Ally told Pan-Africa Football. “That is what I want to assure Tanzanians, the two goals they got, they will vomit them in Tanzania.
“They have made a very big mistake to only score two goals against Simba. At least if it was three goals, then we could have started thinking of the difficult task of overturning the result. But only two goals, they got from our mistakes, after we were not able to maintain the pressure in the first half, is what they have now as an advantage.
“After the two goals, Simba players relaxed and they started to play good football, we didn’t have any mistake after that, we were the better side, we have lost 2-0, but Simba, we have not lost this game. The two goals they scored, are nothing to us. We will level them very early in the game when we play in Tanzania.”
He concluded: “Simba will be crowned the champions of CAF Confederation Cup, there is no shortcut, there is no way Simba will not be able to reply the two goals in 90 minutes. We will score two goals, and score the third, which will be enough to give us the trophy.”
The return leg final will be played on Sunday, May 25. While the Msimbazi Reds will be keen to overturn the deficit, Berkane will look to complete the job and lift their third Confederation Cup title.
