Simba SC forward Steven Mukwala has explained why it is crucial to beat Stellenbosch in the return leg of their CAF Confederation Cup semi-final and secure a place in the showpiece.
The South African side will host the Tanzanian giants at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday, with the Msimbazi Reds holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg at New Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
According to the Ugandan forward, Simba are determined to earn recognition as one of Africa’s top clubs on the continent, and are fully prepared to fight and overcome Stellenbosch to secure a place in the final.
“You know a team like Stellenbosch, they are equally good. They have young players, and they are ready to compete, but we know Simba is the biggest club in Africa right now, and it really needs recognition in continental football,” Mukwala told Pan-Africa Football.
“As players, we know the task ahead, and we are ready to fight and reach the final.”
Should either Simba or Stellenbosch progress, they will face the winner of the other semi-final between RSB Berkane of Morocco and CS Constantine of Algeria. Berkane are firmly in pole position to reach the final after a commanding 4–0 first-leg home victory.
