After their 2-0 defeat to RS Berkane in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final in Morocco, Simba SC defender Shomari Kapombe has vowed they will make sure the trophy remains in Tanzania when they face off in the decider on Sunday, May 25.
The Msimbazi Reds will host the return leg final at Zanzibar’s New Amaan Complex. The Taifa Stars defender has called on Simba fans from all walks of life to throng the venue for the second leg, insisting they will not spare Berkane.
“We all know that we are behind after losing the first leg, we are down by two goals, we understand that we have a huge task ahead of us, it is not going to be easy, it is going to be a tough job to erase the two goals,” Kapombe told Pan-Africa Football.
“Our focus will be first to get the two goals as quickly as possible before we start to search for the winning goal, but what makes the work even easier for us is the fact we will be playing at home. So we want to have the best preparations heading into the return leg.
“We want to allow our technical bench to prepare us well ahead of the return leg, and I also urge our fans to come out in large numbers and push us. They saw how Berkane had huge support at home, and with the support, it will push us to do even better.”
Asked whether the trophy will remain in Tanzania, Kapombe replied: “We are taking it, for sure, we are taking it, and we will not spare them (Berkane).”
During the first leg at Berkane Municipal Stadium, Mamadou Camara nodded in the opening goal from a Hamza El Moussaoui corner after only eight minutes, before Oussama Lamlaoui doubled Berkane’s lead six minutes later.
