CAFCC: Siwale reveals difference that propelled ZESCO United to huge win

ZESCO United staged one of the greatest comebacks to humiliate FC 105 of Gabon 5-0, and progress to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup with an aggregate score of 5-2 on Sunday.

Ahead of the game, the Zambian Super League side were trailing 2-0 from the first leg but stepped up the gear in the second leg at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. Coach Emmanuel Siwale was left impressed with the team’s display.

“We took our chances, and that was the difference. Unlike in the previous game, we had chances, but we couldn’t finish them off. Today, the boys did well,” Siwale said after the game.

ZESCO will now face Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy

Zesco’s plan to get early goals worked. The Ndola side were two up in the opening six minutes. David Simukonda scored the opener in the fourth minute before defender Kabaso Chongo doubled the lead two minutes later. Forceful striker Alex Ngonga added a third five minutes from the break.

“Like we planned, we wanted to score as quickly as possible so that we unsettle the opponents, and that is what helped up,” added Siwale.

In the second half, Kelvin Kampamba scored a penalty six minutes after the hour mark. Hiver Amine, put the icing on the cake with an 88th minute goal to cap a fine day for the Ndola side. 105 coach Raphael Pilato said his side was let down by inexperience.

ZESCO will now face Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy for a place in the group stage.
